A historical excursion to Bursa and İznik was organized by the History Society of Ankara Yıldırım Beyazıt University on the occasion of the 29 October Republic Day celebrations.
Held on the 103rd anniversary of the founding of the Republic of Türkiye, the excursion included visits to some of the most significant sites of our historical and cultural heritage. The day began in Bursa with a visit to the Grand Mosque (Ulu Cami), followed by visits to the tombs of Osman Gazi and Orhan Gazi in Tophane. Participants then explored Koza Han, the Green Mosque (Yeşil Cami), and the Green Tomb (Yeşil Türbe), all of which reflect the city's rich historical character. Irgandı Bridge, another important landmark preserving the traces of Ottoman urban culture, was also included in the itinerary.
The second destination was İznik, where participants visited several sites of considerable historical and religious significance. The İznik Basilica, visited by the Pope and of particular importance to the history of Christianity, as well as Hagia Sophia (Orhan Mosque) and the İznik Green Mosque, were explored, offering an opportunity to examine the city's multilayered historical heritage firsthand. The İznik Museum and the city's historic fortifications were also included in the programme.
Throughout the excursion, participants had the opportunity to discover firsthand the historical richness of Bursa and İznik, two cities that have been home to various civilizations. By exploring the traces of the past together, they enjoyed a productive and memorable day.
We would like to thank all our friends who took part in this meaningful excursion and everyone who contributed to its organization.
