AYBU History Department Edirne–Çanakkale–Bozcaada Historical and Cultural Tour (April 23–25, 2026)

Within the scope of the three-day tour organized by the Ankara Yıldırım Beyazıt University Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, Department of History, between April 23–25, 2026, the following sites were visited in Edirne: the Selimiye Mosque, the Üç Şerefeli Mosque, the Old Mosque (Ulu Camii), the Ali Pasha Bazaar, the New Imperial Palace (Saray-ı Cedîd-i Âmire), the Sarayiçi Kırkpınar Wrestling Arena, the Selimiye Arasta (Covered Bazaar), the City Archive Museum, the Edirne Archaeological Museum, the Foundation Works Museum, the Museum of Turkish and Islamic Arts, the Sultan Bayezid II Complex, the Meriç (Mahmudiye) Bridge, the Karaağaç Railway Station, the Pazarkule Greek Border Gate, the Muradiye Mosque and Complex, and the Uzunköprü (Long Bridge). 

The tour then continued through the Gallipoli Historic Peninsula, where the group visited the Gazi Süleyman Pasha Mosque, the tombs of Ahmed-i Bîcân and Muhammed-i Bîcân—authors of the Muhammediye—the Bayraklı Baba Tomb, the Gallipoli Namazgâh, the Gallipoli Lighthouse and Hamza Bay, the tombs of Gazi Süleyman Pasha and Namık Kemal, Çimpe Castle, Eceabat, Kilitbahir Castle, the Rumeli Mecidiye Bastion, the Seyit Onbaşı Memorial, the Şahindere Martyrdom, the Red Crescent Hospital and Dressing Station Museum, the Çanakkale Martyrs' Memorial and Cemetery, the Anafartalar Front, and Conk Bayırı; in the city center of Çanakkale, the Hamidiye Clock Tower, the Aynalı Bazaar, and the Trojan Horse replica on the seafront were also visited. 

On the final day of the tour, in Bozcaada, the Köprülü Mehmed Pasha Mosque, the Alaybey Mosque, the Bozcaada Turkish Quarter, the Bozcaada Private City Museum, the Church of the Virgin Mary, Bozcaada Castle, and the windmills with their panoramic island views were visited, followed by the ancient cities of Assos and Troy together with the Troy Historical National Park. 

Through this rewarding program, which encompassed more than forty historical and cultural sites over the course of three days, our students had the opportunity to observe on site the knowledge they had studied in their textbooks, thereby significantly enhancing their understanding, experience, and academic perspective.
