AYBU Mechanical Engineering Students Win First Place in LIFT UP Program

he project developed by students of the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Ankara Yıldırım Beyazıt University was awarded First Place among 222 projects evaluated within the scope of the TUSAŞ LIFT UP Industry-Oriented Undergraduate Graduation Projects Program.

Entitled “Design, Manufacturing, and Testing of a Shape Memory Alloy-Actuated Mechanism”, the project focused on developing an innovative locking mechanism for use in aircraft landing gear doors. The designed system serves as an alternative to existing hydraulic, pneumatic, or electromechanical solutions. Within the scope of the project, a prototype was produced, real-life tests were conducted, and a patent application for the developed system was submitted.

The project team consists of our department’s students Samet Can Akçay (team leader), Mahmut Esad Aslan, and Faruk Çatal. The project was supervised academically by Prof. Dr. Ahmet Pınarbaşı and industrially by Hüseyin Cemal Taştan.

This achievement once again demonstrates the competence of AYBU students in developing innovative and applicable engineering solutions within the framework of industry–university collaboration.
