Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Frequently Asked Questions and Answers About Compulsory Internships
Question 1: Is there a deadline for compulsory internship applications?
Answer: No. However, the student must take into account time-consuming processes such as signing the requested documents and sending them to the student by e-mail, and submitting the documents to be signed by the student and the company representative 1 week in advance in order for the insurance (SGK premiums) entries to be made on time by the department secretariat. In addition, academic and administrative staff being on leave during the summer period may cause the processes to take longer. Therefore, students are advised to apply for internships as early as possible.
Question 2: Can the compulsory internship period coincide with final and/or make-up exam weeks?
Answer: No. Compulsory internships must be done on dates outside the academic calendar. Therefore, internships cannot be done during the periods when courses or final exams are held. Students who take make-up exams may start their internships after their make-up exams.
Question 3: Can the compulsory internship period coincide with summer school?
Answer: No. Students cannot do internships during the fall, spring or summer semesters when they are taking courses.
Question 4: The company where I will do my MCE 400 internship does not have most of the departments such as human resources, accounting, purchasing, marketing, R&D, design and planning, quality control, and warehousing. Also, the company does not employ at least 10 workers or at least 1 engineer. Is there any problem with doing my internship at this company?
Answer: The Internship Directive includes criteria regarding the companies where MCE 300 and MCE 400 compulsory internships can be conducted. An MCE 400 internship carried out in a company that does not meet these criteria will not be accepted.
Question 5: Can I complete both of my compulsory internships at the same company?
Answer: If the company meets the criteria specified in the Internship Directive, both internships may be completed in the same company. However, students can enroll in the MCE 400 internship starting from the 6th semester at the earliest. In this case, a separate internship report must be prepared for each internship.
Question 6: The company where I will do my internship also works on Saturdays. Will the work I do on Saturdays count toward the minimum 20 working days required for my internship?
Answer: No. Even if companies operate on Saturdays, Saturdays, Sundays, and official public holidays are not counted as internship days.
Question 7: What should I do for my insurance to start?
Answer: You must follow the steps on the Internship Application page.
Question 8: Can I do my organization internship (MCE 400) before my manufacturing internship (MCE 300)?
Answer: No. The MCE 300 internship must be completed first, followed by the MCE 400 internship.
Question 9: Can we do an internship during the semester break?
Answer: Internships must be completed on dates outside the academic calendar. Saturdays, Sundays and official holidays are not counted within the minimum 20 working days. Internship dates must also not overlap with course or exam periods. If these conditions are met, internships may be carried out during the semester break.
Question 10: I have not found an internship place yet. Companies say they do not accept interns. What should I do?
Answer: Unfortunately, our department does not provide assistance in finding internship placements.
Question 11: Is it sufficient to send my compulsory internship form by e-mail, or do I need to bring it to the school for approval?
Answer: You must follow the steps on the Internship Application page.
Question 12: By what date should I inform the internship commission about the company where I will do my internship?
Answer: You must submit the information about your internship at least 5 days before the start date of your internship.
Question 13: Should the internship document be filled out on a computer or by hand?
Answer: The internship document must be prepared on a computer.
Question 14: Do I have to complete my internship this summer?
Answer: According to the Mechanical Engineering Internship Directive, students who have completed their second year should complete their manufacturing internship, and students who have completed their third year should complete their organization internship in the following summer. The internship commission recommends following this schedule in order to avoid delays in graduation.
Question 15: I need to provide a document showing that I have insurance to the company where I will do my internship. How can I obtain this document?
Answer: If the internship application steps are followed correctly, students’ SGK registrations are completed one business day before the internship begins. After this date, documents related to SGK records can be obtained via e-Devlet.
Question 16: The internship form asks for advisor information, but I do not know who my advisor will be yet. What should I write?
Answer: You can write the contact information of the company’s Human Resources department or the manager of the department where you will work.
Question 17: I want to apply for an internship through the Visionary Genç system. What documents will I need?
Answer: The Visionary Genç program is a system that connects approximately 200 companies with students. The document uploaded to this system must include (1) confirmation that the student has reached the compulsory internship period and (2) a statement that the student’s SGK premiums will be covered by the university during the internship.
Question 18: Since my course load is light, I want to do a voluntary internship during the semester. What should I do?

Question 19: The Mandatory Internship Form asks for advisor information, but the company has not assigned an advisor yet. What should I do?
Answer: You may write the contact information of the Human Resources department of the company. However, your internship report and evaluation form must be signed by an engineer.
