The Department of Mechanical Engineering at Ankara Yıldırım Beyazıt University commenced its undergraduate program in the fall semester of the 2011–2012 academic year. The medium of instruction is 100% English, and the program is completed in a total of five years, consisting of a one-year English preparatory class followed by a four-year undergraduate curriculum.
During the initial years of the program, students take fundamental engineering courses, while in the second and third years, core mechanical engineering courses become predominant. In the final year, a wide range of elective courses allows students to specialize in areas of their interest. Additionally, our students have the opportunity to pursue Minor and Double Major programs in other departments.
In addition to the undergraduate program, the Department of Mechanical Engineering also offers graduate-level education through its Master's and Doctoral programs. The Master's program was launched in the 2011–2012 academic year, followed by the Doctoral program in 2012–2013.
Under the leadership of our department chair and faculty members, the Hydrogen Technologies and Energy Application and Research Center was established in 2024. Furthermore, with the contributions of our faculty, the International Journal of Energy Horizon, an academic journal, began publication in June 2025.
All undergraduate, Master's, and Doctoral courses are conducted at the Faculty of Engineering and Natural Sciences, located on the 15 Temmuz Şehitler Campus. Our campus offers students not only a strong academic environment but also rich social, cultural, and scientific opportunities.
