We Have Lost Our Colleague, Research Assistant Maşallah Nar

 

We are deeply saddened by the loss of our dear colleague, Research Assistant Maşallah Nar from the Department of Medieval History. We pray for Allah’s mercy upon him and extend our condolences and patience to his grieving family and loved ones.

Who Is Research Assistant Maşallah Nar?
Born in 1983 in Siirt, he completed his primary education at 14 Eylül Primary School, secondary education at Mehmet Akif Ersoy Middle School, and high school at Dr. Kemal Naci Ekşi High School in Istanbul. After earning his bachelor’s degree from the History Department of Uludağ University Faculty of Science and Letters, he was admitted to the Medieval History Department at Ankara Yıldırım Beyazıt University in 2011 through the ÖYP program established by the Council of Higher Education (YÖK).

That same year, he began his master's studies at AYBU and spent six months as a visiting researcher at Ain Shams University in Cairo, the capital of Egypt, conducting research in 2012. He completed his master’s degree in 2014 with a thesis titled “The Formation Process of the Shu‘ubiyya Movement” under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Fatih Erkoçoğlu.

As part of his doctoral studies, which he began in 2014, he conducted field and source research in various cities in Iran during 2015 and 2016. In 2018, upon invitation by Dr. Farhad Daftary, he conducted research related to his thesis at the Ismaili Studies Library in London.

Our colleague was working to complete his doctoral thesis titled “The Socio-Political Rise of Shiism in Iran: 14th–16th Centuries.” Besides being proficient in Arabic, Persian, and English, he was also competent in reading Ottoman Turkish documents.
