With the main theme “Urban Development: Processes, Problems, and Solutions,” the 10th Urban Studies Congress was held this year in Skopje, the capital of North Macedonia, hosted by the International Balkan University. Faculty members and research assistants from the Department of Sociology at Ankara Yıldırım Beyazıt University (AYBU) actively participated in the event.
The congress commenced with speeches by Prof. Dr. Zafer Çelik from our department, who served as the head of the organizing committee, and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Yahya Aydın, Vice Dean of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, representing AYBU. Both speakers shared their evaluations regarding contemporary challenges and solution proposals related to the social, economic, and cultural transformation processes of cities.
Throughout the congress, Dr. Feyza Korkmaz Sağlam, Dr. Bahattin Cizreli, Research Assistant Mesut Arslan, and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Yahya Aydın served as session chairs in various panels.

Dr. Feyza Korkmaz Sağlam presented her paper titled “A Relational Analysis of Environmental Sensitivities within Different Urban Habitus.”

Dr. Bahattin Cizreli and Research Assistant Mesut Arslan presented their study entitled “Spatial Homogenization Caused by Globalization in Anatolian Cities: A Comparative Analysis.”

Research Assistants Salih Utku Ünal and M. Mustafa İyi participated with their paper “A Spatial-Configurational and Typological Analysis of Transnational Housing among Diaspora Turks: The Case of Konya Kulu.”
This year’s congress offered an interdisciplinary perspective on issues of transformation, inequality, and sustainability faced by contemporary cities, and was enriched academically by the contributions of our department’s faculty and researchers.
