FEDEK full accreditation — 5 years (2026)

With its strong emphasis on an interdisciplinary approach, the Department encourages students to pursue minor and double-major programmes in other fields. It also offers postgraduate study opportunities through its MA and PhD programmes in Sociology.

Preparatory education

The Department offers two separate undergraduate Sociology programmes, one taught in Turkish and the other in English. The medium of instruction in the English Sociology programme is entirely English. Students who do not pass the English proficiency examination complete a one-year preparatory programme at the School of Foreign Languages on the Etlik Campus. The programme develops academic reading, writing, speaking and listening skills.

Opportunities for students

  • Erasmus+ Exchange Programme — study and internship opportunities abroad
  • Participation in Farabi and Mevlana student exchange programs
  • Active involvement in research laboratories
  • Hands-on experience through internship opportunities
  • Entering the academic world through scientific events and conferences

Getting to Campus

The Esenboğa Central Campus is easily accessible from the city centre by public transport. Regular bus services from different districts of Ankara operate on routes 474 and 486.

Accommodation

Esenboğa KYK student dormitories are located within the university campus, and private dormitory options are available in the surrounding area. Affordable rental apartments can also be found in the nearby Dumlupınar and Esenboğa neighbourhoods, as well as in the Çubuk and Pursaklar districts.

Events

Since 2019, the Department has brought together leading researchers and sociology students through its Sociology Days conference series. Most recently, the event was held as the Sociology Congress on 4–5 May 2026.

Actively run by students, the AYBÜ Sociology Club supports both academic and social development through seminars, talks, workshops, projects and social activities.

Accreditation

The AYBÜ Sociology Undergraduate Programme was granted full accreditation for five years in 2026 by the Science, Literature, Faculty of Science and Letters, Faculty of Languages, History and Geography Curriculum Programmes Assessment and Accreditation Association (FEDEK).
