Sociology is a branch of social science that analyzes human-human, human-nature relations in a holistic manner; has an intensive relationship with other basic social sciences such as Economics, Politics, Anthropology, Psychology, History; but has a broader theoretical/philosophical perspective than these disciplines, and has the widest and most enjoyable learning area. For this reason, sociology is either one of the main choices of young people interested in social sciences or one of the alternative choices. On the other hand, Sociology, which is also an applied science, is becoming increasingly important in analyzing problems, finding solutions and determining and implementing appropriate policies in areas such as Social Policies, Social Services, Family / Child / Youth Policies, Climate Crisis, Urban Integration, etc.

Founded in 2010, Ankara Yıldırım Beyazıt University (AYBÜ), the Department of Sociology accepted students for the first time in the 2012-2013 academic year and started to offer courses. Our department has been graduating since 2016.

The 4-year curriculum is designed to enable students to make historical and cross-societal comparisons of social issues. The program is also designed to make practical contributions to the solution of current social problems by emphasizing research and project-based applied studies. The courses of the department consist of compulsory and elective courses according to the interest of the students in order to understand both the basic concepts and problems of Sociology and the dynamics of changing social structure with an approach that takes into account cultural diversity and the diversity of sub-disciplines of the field of science.

In parallel with the needs of today's society, Sociological Theory, Methodology, Statistics, Use of SSPS, Urban Sociology, Sociology of Migration, Sociology of Information, Demography, Political Sociology, Sociology of Family, Sociology of Economics, Sociology of Education, Sociology of Religion, In addition to basic courses such as Sociology of Childhood and Youth, there are many elective courses such as Industrial Sociology, Sociology of Consumption, Sociology of Crime, Sociology of Health, Sociology of Disaster, Sociology of the Body, Sociology of Communication, Social Impact Assessment, Regional Problems, etc. that allow students to specialize.

Throughout the 4-year undergraduate education, the department aims to provide its students with the ability to think sociologically, including critical and analytical thinking on issues and problems addressed at the micro or macro level.
