The article “Urbanization and Its Problems in Kyrgyzstan: The Case of Bishkek,” co-authored by our department’s Prof. Mustafa Orçan and Sagınay Karaeva, has been published in issue 119 of Bilig.
Focusing on urban sociology and social integration, the study draws on surveys, interviews and observations to examine the effects of lacking an official title deed, known as the “red book,” in Bishkek’s janykonush neighbourhoods. The article finds that the absence of title deeds restricts access to basic services, contributing to exclusion and delaying urban integration. It also highlights the importance of policies developed by central and local authorities to address these problems.
