BOOK INTRODUCTION

This work reveals the process by which the Ottoman Empire entered the First World War alongside the German Empire—kept as a national secret by Enver Pasha—and the disclosures made by Kazım Karabekir Pasha that brought this to light. Additionally, it provides a detailed explanation, supported by numerous sources, of several critical events: the deaths of one hundred thousand of our soldiers due to cold and disease as a result of Enver Pasha’s decision to launch a military operation in the Sarıkamış region without considering winter conditions; the subsequent advance of Russian forces—who took advantage of the collapse of the Third Army—to occupy Erzurum, Trabzon, and Erzincan; the four-month-long defense at Kop that bought time for reinforcements to arrive; and the opportunity presented by the 1917 Russian Revolution was turned to our advantage, leading to the cleansing of our cities and territories—up to Baku—from Russian forces and Armenian militias.
