The article titled “Islam in Auguste Comte’s Theory of Religion: From Orientalist Prejudices to the Precursor of the Religion of Humanity”, co-authored by our department member Res. Asst. Ramazan Ünsal, has been published in the 32nd issue of the Journal of Rize Divinity (Rize İlahiyat Dergisi).
Aiming to contribute to the history of sociology and the sociology of religion, the study examines the understanding of religion and specifically thoughts on Islam held by Auguste Comte, one of the founding figures of sociology, through the method of conceptual analysis. The article explores the intellectual rupture in Comte's thought—tracing his evolution from early Eurocentric prejudices to his later period, where he recognized Islam as a pioneering prototype of the "Religion of Humanity" and as a tradition-modernity bridge that paved the way for positivism in the East.
