Our faculty member Prof. Dr. Zafer Çelik participated in the international conference held in Pretoria, South Africa, between June 29 and July 1, 2026. His participation was funded by the conference support program within the scope of the Fast Track Support Project titled “Reproducing Enmity Through Education: Ethiopia-Somalia Relations in Textbooks,” which is supported by our university's Scientific Research Projects (BAP) Coordination Unit.
The event, organized in partnership with the University of Pretoria, the International Studies Association (ISA), the African Association of Political Science (AAPS), and ISA's Global South Caucus (ISA-GSCIS), was held under the title “ISA Pretoria 2026 Conference: African States vs States in Africa: An Epistemological Interrogation of Africa and the World”. Focusing on the epistemological interrogation of Africa and the world, the conference addressed global and regional political, sociological, and international relations dynamics.
Participating in the panel titled "Politics of (post)colonial resentment: grievances, (non)recognition and mobilization", which was held on the first day of the conference and focused on post-colonial resentment, grievances, recognition/non-recognition, and mobilization politics, Çelik presented his paper titled "The Reproduction of Enmity: Somali–Ethiopian Relations in School Textbooks". The study examined how enmity in Somali–Ethiopian relations is reproduced through school textbooks.
