Faculty members from the Department of Sociology at Ankara Yıldırım Beyazıt University participated in the AIS (Italian Sociological Association) Gender Studies Mid-Term Conference, “From Femininity to Femininities: ‘Rehearsal’ for an Intersectional Gender Paradigm”, held on April 16–17, 2026, in Palermo, Italy.

Renowned for her work on intersectionality and Black feminist theory, Patricia Hill Collins delivered the opening keynote lecture titled “Lethal Intersections: Race, Gender and Violence.” The researchers had the opportunity to attend this lecture and engage in academic discussions on current debates.

The department was represented with two papers at the international academic platform. The paper titled “Later-Life Femininities under Economic Insecurity: Urban Ageing, Feminised Poverty and Coping Strategies among Older Women in Ankara” authored by Yelda Özen and Halime Ünal Reşitoğlu, focuses on the experiences of older women under economic insecurity in urban contexts.

In addition, the paper titled “Emerging Forms of ‘Muslim Masculinities’: Forced Migration and Precarious Living Conditions” authored by Saeid Mozafari (graduate of the AYBU Sociology Department, BA and MA, and currently a PhD scholarship student in the Department of Anthropology at the University of Göttingen) and Halime Ünal Reşitoğlu, was presented. The paper is based on Saeid Mozafari’s master’s thesis conducted under the supervision of Halime Ünal Reşitoğlu.
