Ankara Yıldırım Beyazıt University
Department of Metallurgical and Materials Engineering
We congratulate all students who have left the challenging university entrance exam preparation process behind and are getting ready for their preferences! We would like to see you in our department to shape the future and your future together.
About the Department
Ankara Yıldırım Beyazıt University (AYBU) Department of Metallurgical and Materials Engineering was established in 2011 and offers 100% English undergraduate, master's, and doctoral programs. The education is conducted in modern classrooms and laboratories located on the Etlik campus, with the support of the Central Research Laboratory (MERLAB). Our students are provided with one year of English preparatory education. Students who successfully complete the preparatory education are entitled to start their undergraduate studies in Metallurgical and Materials Engineering. Our department is located in the 15 Temmuz Şehitleri Building in Etlik, Ankara.
Engineers of Future-Shaping Materials are Raised at AYBU!
What is Metallurgical and Materials Engineering?
Metallurgical and Materials Engineering is a multidisciplinary engineering field concerned with the production, processing, characterization, and performance analysis of engineering materials such as metals, ceramics, polymers, composites, and nanomaterials. This discipline intersects with many fields such as physics, chemistry, biology, and mechanical engineering.
It is an applied engineering branch that studies the structure, properties, production, processing, and use of materials. It covers many types of materials, including ceramics, polymers, composite materials, and nanomaterials, in addition to metals. This engineering branch investigates the atomic-level structure of a material, its mechanical, electrical, optical, and thermal properties, and aims to design and produce these materials to perform better.

Our classrooms, the cornerstone of theoretical education, are equipped with modern facilities and have air conditioning systems.

Laboratories
The Department of Metallurgical and Materials Engineering at Ankara Yıldırım Beyazıt University not only provides students with theoretical knowledge but also places great importance on applied education. The fundamental principles of materials science and engineering can only be reinforced through experimental work. In this regard, the laboratories within the department offer significant contributions to students and researchers in both undergraduate and graduate (master's-doctorate) studies.
The laboratories are organized to provide students with practical experience in topics such as material production, characterization, mechanical tests, and microstructure analysis.
Our department has metallography, characterization, ceramics, material furnace, electron microscopy, and X-ray diffraction laboratories. In addition, the computer laboratory within our faculty and the Central Research Laboratory (MERLAB) within our university are utilized.

Study Areas
Our university has study areas where students can study comfortably 24/7. Our library, where they can access a wide range of resources, is on the 8th floor. In addition, our study halls are located on the ground floor and the 8th floor. Besides these, there is an e-library system that they can access via the internet.

Cafeteria and Social Areas
The cafeteria is located on the -3rd floor. Inside the cafeteria, there are pool, tennis, and foosball tables. On the -1st floor, there is an establishment offering alternative food options. There is also a cafe on campus where students can socialize. Additionally, there are various seating areas around the cafe where they can spend time outdoors. Our school has football, basketball, tennis, and volleyball courts where our students can do sports and entertainment activities. There is a stationery shop on the ground floor of block A. There are separate prayer rooms (mescid) for men and women on the -5th floor.
