Atomic Age 2.0: Nuclear Power Shaping the Future

The Department of Mechanical Engineering hosted a significant event on November 13, 2025. At this meeting, titled "Atomic Age 2.0: Nuclear Power Shaping the Future," Turkey's position in the nuclear energy field, current studies, and future perspectives were thoroughly discussed.

Three expert engineers from TÜNAŞ shared their professional knowledge and field experience with our students.
Zeynep Hülya Yıldırım's presentation, focusing on the development of nuclear energy in Turkey, comprehensively outlined Turkey's roadmap in this field. Meryem Erat Şekerci explained in detail the licensing processes of nuclear facilities and the security analyses conducted during these processes, addressing technical issues of particular interest to engineering students. Memet Salih Timur provided guidance to students interested in working in the field with information on reactor safety, fuel management, and career opportunities in the nuclear energy sector.

Throughout the seminar, the seminar not only highlighted the technical aspects of nuclear technologies but also highlighted their place within sustainable energy policies. Following the presentations, students had the opportunity to meet with the speakers individually, ask questions, and learn more about the sector.

The Mechanical Engineering Department aims to continue holding such events, which provide students with opportunities to explore diverse engineering fields and strengthen academic-industry ties.
