Purpose of the Program

Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) is a branch of science that deals with the elimination or reduction of occupational risks and health problems that employees are exposed to in the workplace due to the physical environment in the workplace. OHS; is a multidisciplinary field of study which is in the field of medicine, technique and many branches of science (physics, chemistry, engineering, sociology, psychology, law, social policy etc.). Each workplace has health and safety hazards depending on the nature of the work done. The purpose of OHS is to protect employees and to ensure the safety of operations and production.

The guiding principles of international organizations in the development of national legislation and the importance of the issue have made it possible to include OHS regulations in almost every country's legislation. In our country, the latest regulations on this subject; With the Güven Occupational Health and Safety Law. No. 6331 dated 20.06.2013, all rules of Occupational Health and Safety are determined. The ği Regulation on the Duties, Authorities, Responsibilities and Training of Occupational Safety Specialists güvenli, which were issued in accordance with this law, provided the engineers with a master's degree in occupational health and safety to be a B class occupational safety specialist.

In this way, it will be possible to carry out scientific studies and studies with the knowledge and facilities to be provided from workplaces while increasing productivity by applying the scientific method and analysis methods to the fields of study with university-industry cooperation.

Program Application

Students are expected to take at least 7 courses (56 ECTS) and complete their seminar, thesis and special studies. The expected graduation period is four semesters.

ISGT501 Occupational Health and Safety Introduction

The aim of Occupational Health and Safety Introduction course is to introduce students to the field of occupational safety and health, its scope and importance and the necessity of trained manpower in our country. For this purpose, it is aimed to provide the necessary infrastructure and information hardware for the students by focusing on the main issues concerning occupational safety and health.

Classification of occupational diseases, medical screening, diagnosis, introduction to epidemiology, biological risk factors and toxicology.

ISGT 503 Risk Management and Evaluation

In the professional life of students; It is aimed to enable them to undertake the basic principles of risk management and to enable them to undertake the risks in different areas and risk management practices to reduce these risks. Basic Components of Risk Management, Basic Steps of Risk Management, Scaling of Risk, Risk Identification Techniques, Risk Control Methods, Risk Control application will be discussed in Turkey and in the world.

ISGT 504 Physical Risk Factors and Ergonomics

Definition of ergonomics, its scope and related disciplines, History of ergonomics, structural features of human body, movement system, bones, joints and muscles, human dimensions and anthropometric approach, Industrial ergonomics concept, Human dimensions, function and performance principles To understand the priority requirements for the design, Human ergonomics and environmental ergonomics harmonization research, to evaluate and improve business environment conditions.

OHS 506 Occupational Health and Safety Legislation

The aim of the course is to introduce students to the general principles of safety, characteristics, principles and rules. In this respect, all kinds of work-related accidents in the face of occupational disease to be made to determine the situation, the main qualifications of the obligation to observe the obligation of the worker to explain, in the face of the situations that students face in business life to solve the problem and to develop the ability to apply the solution to produce solutions.

ISGT 508 Occupational Health and Safety in Electrical Works

The aim of this course is to give information about the risks that occur in electrical works in workplaces and to teach Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) measures which should be taken against these risks (electric shock and fire). Standards (NESC) ANSI C-2, (NEC) ANSI / NFPA 70, ANSI / NFPA 70B, ANSI / NFPA standards established by internationally recognized institutions in the field of electricity and occupational safety (ANSI, IEEE, NFPA, ASTM, ASSE, OSHA)) 70E, NF C 17-100, NF C 17-10) and the current legislation in our country. In addition to these, information will be given about security management, organizational structure, security training methods and systems related to electricity and work security.

ISGT 509 Occupational Health and Safety in Mining Sector

Mining sector in terms of accidents occurred in Turkey has seen the most accidents, together with the construction sector and metal industry. As mining operations are large enterprises, the number of accidents in mines is high and accidents result in serious consequences. ISGT 515 Business Psychology and Business Ethics

This course deals with the fields of business psychology and business ethics. Business psychology basically examines human behavior in a work environment. Among the important topics studied are the creation of an appropriate business environment to increase the productivity of employees, effective communication among employees, team behavior, as well as the adaptation of employees to the work environment and recruitment of appropriate employees. In relation to the creation of an appropriate work environment, other important issues in which workers' health and safety, the importance of occupational accidents, environmental and human factors in work accidents are examined. Business ethics is considered as an important variable in order for businesses to continue their existence. Business ethics mainly covers ethical issues and ethical decision-making processes. Issues such as the creation of an appropriate business environment, the health and safety of the workplace, which is the subject of the field of business psychology, also play an important role in the creation of an ethical business environment. For this reason, the main aim of this course is to have knowledge about the requirements of a suitable and desired work environment in order to benefit from the theoretical perspective of the fields of business psychology and business ethics.
