Graduation Project (MSE411 & MSE412)

To be eligible for graduation from our department, students must successfully complete the MSE411 and MSE412 Graduation Project courses. As part of these courses, students carry out a research project under the supervision of an academic staff member from our department.

The MSE411 course focuses on defining the scope of the project, conducting a literature review, and developing the methodology. If applicable, preliminary experimental work may also be carried out during this phase. At the end of the term, students present their work in the form of a poster presentation, which is used as a major criterion for grading along with the advisor’s evaluation. Poster presentations are held at the end of the first semester and are evaluated by academic staff from within the department, invited academics from other departments or universities, and our alumni. Awards are given to the top-performing students. An example of the poster evaluation form can be found below.

The MSE412 course covers the completion of all experimental and/or theoretical work, as well as the preparation and presentation of the research thesis in front of a jury composed of the department’s academic staff. Students are graded based on their performance throughout the project, the quality of their final thesis, and their oral presentation. The thesis writing guidelines and evaluation criteria are provided below.

Students are encouraged to work with an academic advisor whose area of expertise aligns with their interests. To facilitate this, announcements are made by the department before the relevant semester begins (for example, in the spring semester for students who will take the course in the following fall). If a student does not come to an agreement with any faculty member, an advisor will be assigned by the department.

Students who plan to take MSE411 must have successfully completed at least 140 ECTS credits before the semester in which they register for the course. Students who do not meet this requirement will not be allowed to take the course. Therefore, students should take this into account before reaching out to potential advisors.
