Young Designers Mentorship Program on Disaster and Emergency Solutions Completed Successfully

The event titled “Young Designers Mentorship Program – Disaster and Emergency Solutions”, organized in collaboration between Ankara Yıldırım Beyazıt University Industrial Design Department and Çubuk Science and Art Center (BİLSEM), was successfully completed with productive outcomes.

Within the scope of the program, second-year students from the AYBÜ Industrial Design Department came together with 12 secondary school students studying at Çubuk BİLSEM in a mentorship-based collaborative process. Throughout the event, students conducted design studies focusing on essential needs that arise during disaster and emergency situations.

During the workshop process, students identified problem areas based on real-life scenarios, developed alternative solutions, and materialized their ideas through sketches, diagrams, three-dimensional models, and presentations. The workshop aimed not only to produce design outcomes but also to strengthen students’ abilities in responsibility, communication, and collaborative thinking. While this process helped university students improve their mentoring skills, it also enabled BİLSEM students to become familiar with the design discipline at an early age.

The event was held with the participation and support of AYBÜ Industrial Design Department faculty members including Faculty Dean Prof. Dr. İhsan Toktaş, Vice Dean Dr. Taner Aşçı, Çubuk District Director of National Education İlhan Eranıl, District Education Branch Manager Kasım Kılınç, Çubuk BİLSEM Director Yunus Nasır, and Vice Director Yener Özoğuz.

At the end of the event, the design proposals developed by the students were presented and exhibited. Focusing on a socially critical topic such as disaster and emergency situations, this workshop highlighted the role of design in producing solutions to societal problems. The AYBÜ Industrial Design Department aims to continue promoting a socially responsible design approach through similar initiatives.
