TRT Music has produced the “Âşık Şeref Taşlıova Documentary.” In this documentary, produced and directed by Fatma İffet Yöntem, Prof. Dr. Mete Taşlıova, a faculty member of our department, served as an advisor and speaker.
In addition to Şeref Taşlıova’s (1938–2014) career as an aşık, the documentary brings together his presentations at academic conferences, the articles and compilations he prepared for journals, his role as a key source on aşık musical modes, and the various studies—such as articles, theses, and books—written about him.
The documentary also highlights key milestones in the life of Âşık Şeref Taşlıova, who retired as an artist with the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, including his designation as a Living Human Treasure by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) in 2008 and the conferral of an Honorary Doctorate of Science by Ardahan University in 2010.
Prominent figures in Turkish folk literature discuss both his artistic and scholarly sides in the “Âşık Şeref Taşlıova Documentary.” Among these figures are Prof. Dr. Dursun Yıldırım, Prof. Dr. Öcal Oğuz, Prof. Dr. Ramazan Korkmaz, Prof. Dr. Erol Parlak, Prof. Dr. Oğuzhan Aydın, and Kubilay Dökmetaş.
