This meeting, which addresses the theoretical, historical, and artistic dimensions of the interaction between literature and cinema, was planned as part of the TDE439 Literature and Cinema course taught by Dr. Sezaver Çapcı Sipahi and organized in a way that allows the course content to be shared across the university.
The “Literature and Cinema Panel,” organized by the Young Writers Society operating within the Department of Turkish Language and Literature at Ankara Yıldırım Beyazıt University's Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, was held on December 10, 2025, in the C Block Conference Hall.
Led by the society's academic advisor, Dr. Sezaver Çapcı Sipahi, the panel was completed with the enthusiastic participation of students interested in literature and cinema. Moderated by Prof. Dr. Ayşe Demir, the panel discussed the interaction between literature and cinema on an academic level.
During the panel, speakers shared different perspectives on the relationship between literature and cinema with the participants. Prof. Dr. Ayfer Yılmaz, a faculty member at Ankara Hacı Bayram Veli University, discussed the structural transformation of works adapted from Turkish literature to cinema in her presentation titled “The Relationship Between Novels and Cinema in Turkey in Terms of Adaptations.” Prof. Dr. Fatih Sakallı, also a faculty member at Ankara Hacı Bayram Veli University, drew attention to fundamental sources written in this field in his presentation titled “An Evaluation of Literature and Cinema Books.”
In the lecture titled “The Transformation of Narrative in Literature and Cinema: The Reconstruction of Image, Time, and Meaning” delivered by Assistant Professor Sezaver Çapcı Sipahi, the technical and narrative transformations that emerge in the transition from written text to visual image were evaluated within a theoretical framework.
During the question-and-answer session following the presentations, participants had the opportunity to ask the speakers questions about topics that interested them. In this section, which attracted great interest from the audience, questions about the relationship between literature and cinema were addressed in detail.
At the end of the panel, it was stated that the Young Writers' Association planted a sapling on campus in the name of each speaker to thank them for their contributions. Certificates commemorating this meaningful gesture were presented to them. In addition, various gifts were presented to the speakers for their valuable contributions to the event. The event concluded with commemorative photographs being taken.
