2024-2025 Fall Semester Undergraduate Course Schedule has been published.

Please read the following instructions carefully before choosing a course!

RULES TO BE FOLLOWED BY UNDERGRADUATE STUDENTS OF THE DEPARTMENT OF SOCIOLOGY DURING COURSE REGISTRATION

In accordance with the AYBU Academic Calendar, our students are required to register for courses between September 11-13, 2024. Students can make the necessary changes during the add-drop period on September 30-October 02, 2024. Students should follow the course selection rules below according to their class.

1ST YEAR STUDENTS

In the first year (first two semesters) all courses are compulsory. For this reason, students should take the courses coded SOS 101, SOS 103, SOS105, FEL 131, ENG 101, PSI 123, TIT 101, TDL 101 as compulsory. Students who take the YDDS exam and are exempt from ING 101 and 102 may not choose these courses. If students have previously taken some of these courses at another institution, they can create an adjustment request from the Student Information System within 10 days from the date of enrollment at the university. Students whose courses are counted must submit another petition during the add-drop period to complete their courses to 30 ECTS in order to be able to take courses from above when their courses are counted.

2ND YEAR STUDENTS

Students must first take their lower courses. SOS 201, SOS 207, SOS217, SOS219 coded courses are compulsory for 2nd year students. FEL 241 and FEL 251 courses are opened for sociology department students who aim to get a formation certificate. These courses are accepted as elective courses outside the department. Students who do not take these courses must take a non-departmental elective course from another department in the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences that provides education in Turkish. 2nd year students must take one or both of the remaining two courses, SOS 209 and SOS 211, as elective courses within the department. Students who choose only one of them can take a course from above if they have the required average to reach 30 ECTS per semester and if the automation system allows.

3RD YEAR STUDENTS

Students must first take their lower courses. SOS 301, SOS 303, SOS 307 and SOS 311 are compulsory for 3rd year students. FEL 351 course is opened for sociology department students who aim to get a formation certificate. This course is accepted as an elective course outside the department. Students who do not take FEL 351 must take a non-departmental elective course from another department in the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences that provides education in Turkish. 3rd year students should take only one of the courses coded SOS 309, SOS 313 and SOS 319 as an elective course within the department. Students should not take 2nd or 4th year elective courses. Students can contact their advisors and substitute the elective courses they have taken for the elective courses they have failed in the previous semesters. Students who want to take upper division courses can only take the compulsory courses of the 4th grade.

4TH YEAR STUDENTS

Students must first take their lower courses. For 4th year students, only SOS 403 is compulsory. Students can only take the graduation project from an advisor they have agreed upon. The registration of a student who registers otherwise will not be approved. Students must take four of the courses SOS 407, SOS 413, SOS 415, SOS 417, SOS 427 as elective courses within the department. In order to complete 30 ECTS, students must take a course outside the department from another department that provides Turkish education in the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences.

STUDENTS WHO EXTEND THEIR SEMESTER

Students who extend their semester must first take the remaining compulsory courses. The student should then check whether he/she has completed his/her compulsory courses by examining the curriculum status in order to avoid a mishap. Then, they can take their remaining courses outside or within the department in order to complete 240 ECTS. Students who have extended their semester but have not yet taken a graduation project can only take the course from the advisor they have met and agreed with. The registration of a student who registers otherwise may not be approved.

DMP and YANDAL STUDENTS

Double Major and Minor students register for courses according to the protocol between the two departments. For this reason, they should definitely choose their courses in contact with their advisors.

Students coming with DGS

Vertical transfer students can create an adjustment request from the Student Information System within 10 days from the date of enrollment in order to count the courses they have taken before.  Even if the courses are counted, it is not possible for students to take upperclass courses in the first semester. Because the automation system only allows students with a certain grade point average to take courses from upper classes. The student must follow the course selection rules of the class to which he/she has been transferred by horizontal or vertical transfer.

STUDENTS WHO TRANSFER BETWEEN INSTITUTIONS OR TRANSFER WITH CENTRAL SCORE

They must follow the rules of the year in which they are a student. If there are courses they need to take from the bottom (which have been announced to them before), they must first take those courses. Then they choose their courses according to the rules of the year to which they belong. If they want to take more courses, they can choose compulsory courses from their upper class.

Important Information: Except for TIT 101, TDL 101 and ING 101, all courses will be 100% face-to-face. Students are responsible for class attendance in case of overlapping class hours due to various reasons (such as taking a course below and minor).  If the student is not absent from the lower course, he/she is not obliged to attend the related course. However, students who receive upgrades are obliged to attend.

Students can contact their advisors via e-mail if necessary. The e-mail addresses of the advisors are on our department page.
