Head of the Department of Legal History of our Faculty Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ahmet Kılınç presented a paper at ASOS 10th International Law Symposium

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ahmet Kılınç, Head of the Department of Legal History of our
Faculty, chaired the 18th- Turkish Legal History session of the ASOS 10th International Law
Symposium held for the tenth time this year on 24 May 2024, and also presented a paper titled
"Ases as an Assistant Judge in Classical Period Istanbul Kadi Registers". In his paper, Assoc.
Prof. Dr. Kılınç included the organizational structure, duties, and job descriptions of the ases,
and also touched upon the different roles of the ases, such as their remuneration and the
fiduciary who were members of the discovery committee. In his paper, supported by many
examples from practice, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Kılınç emphasized that aseses made significant
contributions as assistant kadi in the period when Ottoman justice functioned well, and that
the good functioning of the understanding of justice today cannot be achieved by a single
official.
