Our Faculty Member, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ahmet Kılınç Attended the Online Conference Co-organized by Our Faculty and International Islamic University Malaysia

The online conference titled ‘The Era of Uthmaniyyah and Its Contribution towards the
Development of Islamic Law’ was co-organized by our Faculty, International Islamic University
Malaysia Department of Legal Studies, Centre for Foundation Studies, and Ahmad Ibrahim
Kulliyah of Laws.

During the Conference, Our Faculty member of Department of History of Law Assoc. Prof. Dr.
Ahmet Kılınç presented his paper titled ‘The Development of Fiqh in Ottoman and Reformation
Era’. He explained that during the period of codification and new ijtihad, the framework of the
limited legislative authority granted to the Ulul Amri by Islamic law is used to modernise the
application of Islamic law.

Prof. Dr. Farid Sufian Bin Shuaib presented his paper titled ‘The implementation of Ottoman
Reforms (Mecelle) in Malaysian Archipelago’. He provided the connection since the 16 th  century
between the Ottoman and the Sultanate of Aceh, the people of Moro Muslims and the Sultanate
of Johor as a platform of continued collaboration between the different worlds.

Furthermore, the Rector of the International Islamic University Malaysia and Our Dean Prof. Dr.
Hayri Bozgeyik, who also represented our University’s Rector, gave their speeches. They agreed
upon the idea of the strengthening partnership of the two universities.
