IKEA Visit with Industrial Design Students
Together with our second-year Industrial Design students, a technical trip to the IKEA Ankara store was organized within the scope of the Product Design I course project titled “Design of Everyday Objects.” The purpose of the visit was to enable students to observe real-world design applications and gain insights into product design, user experience, and modular furniture systems.
The event was held with the participation of our Dean and Head of Department, Prof. Dr. İhsan Toktaş, along with course instructors Asst. Prof. Dr. Taner Aşçı and Research Assistant Ece Erden. The visit allowed students to examine key design components such as function, aesthetics, ergonomics, material use, and user experience through direct observation of real product examples.
This technical visit provided an opportunity for our students to approach the discipline of design in the context of everyday life, develop their observation skills, and experience a user-centered design approach.
During their explorations in the store, students analyzed products in terms of material selection, ergonomics, packaging styles, and brand identity, collecting data for their design projects conducted within the course.
