The International Symposium on the Development of Mediation was made at our Faculty within the scope of the events for 150th Anniversary of the Foundation of the Court of Cassation.
The International Symposium on the Development of Mediation was made at our Faculty within the scope of the events for 150th Anniversary of the Foundation of the Court of Cassation. The Symposium was organized joint by the Court of Cassation and our Faculty and with the support of the Ankara Mediators Association on 6 and 7 December 2018 at the Conference Hall Etlik National Will Building.
President of the Court of Cassation Honourable İsmail Rüştü CİRİT, Chief Public Prosecutor of the Court of Cassation Honourable Mehmet AKARCA, Chancellor of our University Honourable Prof. Dr. Metin DOĞAN, Deand of our Faculty and the Vice-Chancellor of our University Prof. Dr. M. Fatih UŞAN, Heads of Circuit of the Court of Cassation, great numbers of judges, lawyers and academics from Turkey and abroad participated in the Symposium.
At the beginning of the Symposium, the introductory movies about the Court of Cassation and our Faculty were run. Following this, Dean of our Faculty and Vice- Chancellor of our University Honourable M. Fatih UŞAN made an opening speech. In his speech he mentioned that our Faculty had made numerous national and international activities and expressed his satisfaction about the of a symposium about mediation, which was already in our culture.
After the speech of Honourable Prof. Dr. M. Fatih UŞAN, Chancellor of our University Honourable Prof. Dr. Metin DOĞAN also made an opening speech. Our Chancellor congratulated our Faculty for organizing a symposium on such an important issue by emphasizing the importance of the mediation for solving the legal disputes.
Following the speeches of our Dean and Chancellor, President of the Court of Cassation Honourable İsmail Rüştü CİRİT also made a speech. He started his speech by conveying his thanks for organizing this symposium and pointed out that the Court of Cassation had very heavy workload, to decrease this workload the mediation was one of the most effective ways which was implemented in a successful manner in most of the countries around the world and was already existed in our history.
After the opening speeches, the head of the Department of Mediation of General Directorate of Law and Legislation of the Ministry of Justice Honourable Hakan ÖZATAR made a speech about mediation practices. In his speech, he underlined that time was very important in the solution of legal disputes and Turkey made progress in this regard by the methods of optional and compulsory mediation practised since 2012.
In the first session of the Symposium on “Mediation in Family Law Disputes which was chaired by the Head of the Second Circuit of the Court of Cassation Honourable Ömer Uğur GENÇCAN, Lawyer Mediator Assoc. Prof. Dr. Natalija Kaminskiene, Lawyer Mediator Pervin YILDIZ, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Huriye Reyhan DEMİRCİOĞLU and the member of the 2nd Civil Circuit of the Court of Cassation Erdem ŞİMŞEK made their presentations respectively.
After the lunch break, the second session of the Symposium on “Mediation on Labour Law Disputes”, which was chaired by the Head of the 22nd Civil Circuit of the Court of Cassation Honourable Seracettin GÖKTAŞ, took place. In this session, Judge of the Lithonia Supreme Court Zane Peterstone, Prof. Dr. Talat CANBOLAT, Prof. Dr. Muhammet ÖZEKES and Prof. Dr. Murat ATALI made their presentations respectively.
On the second day of the Symposium, the third session on “Mediation on Commercial Disputes took place. In this session, which was chaired by the Head of the 19th Civil Circuit of the Court of Cassation Honourable Mehmet Bülent SELÇUK, Lawyer Mediator Alessandro Bruni, Prof. Dr. Ali YEŞİLIRMAK, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ersin ERDOĞAN and the Member of the 15th Civil Circuit of the Court of Cassation Adem ALBAYRAK made their presentations respectively.
