New Journal Application and Indexing Application Process

For scientific journals that will newly start their publication life at our university, a university senate decision is required. The senate decision is a mandatory document that must be uploaded to the DergiPark system by the Scientific Journals and Publication Coordinatorship. Once the senate decision is obtained, the application procedures for the establishment of the journal are initiated. (For DergiPark new journal application procedures, see Appendix 1).

The new journal application is submitted to the Scientific Journals and Publication Coordinatorship along with the official letter containing the university senate decision. The application must include the following information:

  • •Names and contact information of the managing editor, license holder, and editor-in-chief,

  • •The name of the journal, publication period, and website address,

  • •Information regarding the fee policy.

The new journal application is registered in the DergiPark system by the Scientific Journals and Publication Coordinator, and the process is monitored. At the moment the first issue of the journal is uploaded to the DergiPark system, the editor-in-chief must inform the coordinator so that the Scientific Journals and Publication Coordinatorship can enter the ISSN information into the system within 5 business days at the latest.

After the ISSN number is obtained, the Scientific Publication Coordinator registers this information in the DergiPark system, and the process is completed upon the coordinator signing the participation agreement sent by DergiPark.

Indexing Application Process with the Scientific Journals and Publication Coordinatorship

For the application of scientific journals to national and international indexes, an application must be made to the Scientific Journals and Publication Coordinatorship via an official letter. The basic information and documents to be submitted for index application are as follows:

  • •Name and contact information of the editor-in-chief,

  • •The journal's website, ISSN number, publication period, and fee policy,

  • •Journal introductory summary,

  • •Ethics committee approval form and author ethics declaration form,

  • •Other documents and information requested specifically by the index.

While applications to some indexes are handled by the Scientific Journals and Publication Coordinatorship, for others, the journal editorship carries out the application process personally. Therefore, the journal editorship is obliged to report all actions and updates made during the application process to the Scientific Journals and Publication Coordinatorship in a timely and complete manner.

The Scientific Journals and Publication Coordinatorship provides consultancy and support in ensuring that application documents are prepared completely and in accordance with publishing standards.

Publication Ethics Principles

Scientific journals within our university act in accordance with international publication ethics principles and strictly comply with ethical standards in all publishing processes.

In this context, the principles of COPE (Committee on Publication Ethics), one of the most widely accepted organizations adopted as a guide in academic publishing, are taken as a basis. COPE provides leading guidance on maintaining ethical standards in scientific publications, acting fairly and transparently in publishing processes, and preventing plagiarism and other ethical violations.

Our journals also aim to maintain a reliable and reputable publishing approach in accordance with ethical rules, taking into account international ethical standards such as ICMJE and WAME according to their respective disciplines.
