The meeting titled “The Two Sides of Narrative: A Dialogue Between Literature and Cinema,” organized by the Young Writers' Association, was held on December 17, 2025, in the A Block Conference Hall.

This meeting, which addressed the theoretical, historical, and artistic dimensions of the interaction between literature and cinema, was planned as part of the TDE439 Literature and Cinema course taught by Dr. Sezaver Çapcı Sipahi and organized in a way that allowed the course content to be shared throughout the university.

The meeting, led by our department faculty member Dr. Sezaver Çapcı Sipahi, featured story writer and editor-in-chief of Heceöykü magazine Emin Gürdamur and writer and editor-in-chief of Hece magazine Hatice Bildirici as speakers. The program addressed the relationship between literature and cinema in both theoretical and artistic dimensions.

In the presentation titled “The Poetics of the Unexpected in Cinema” by Assistant Professor Sezaver Çapcı Sipahi, the effect of cinematic narrative on the audience was evaluated within the framework of the concepts of image, time, and meaning. The presentation was structured around a short film screening and an accompanying experience form, creating an interactive evaluation environment that actively involved participants in the process; in this context, the aim was for the audience to not only remain in the position of listeners but also to produce interpretations as part of the presentation.

In the evaluation and discussion section held at the end of the meeting, different dimensions of the relationship between literature and cinema were addressed with contributions from the participants. In this respect, the event was noteworthy in that it allowed the relationship between literature and cinema to be considered not only on a theoretical basis but also on an experiential level.

At the end of the panel, it was stated that the Young Writers' Association planted a sapling on our university campus in the name of each speaker to thank them for their contributions. Certificates commemorating this meaningful gesture were presented to them. In addition, various gifts were presented to the speakers for their valuable contributions to the meeting. The event ended with commemorative photographs being taken.
