Discussions on Divan Literature with Dr. Mehmet KAHRAMAN

         On November 24, 2025, Teachers' Day, we hosted a senior teacher in our department. Dr. Mehmet Kahraman, a retired faculty member of Kırıkkkale University, addressed our department faculty and students, providing information on the history and development of classical Turkish literature discussions.              

         At the beginning of the program, which started at 2:00 p.m. in our department's amphitheater, our Department Chair, Prof. Dr. Mustafa Erdoğan, gave a short opening speech. In his speech, Prof. Erdoğan stated that classical Turkish literature is an important value of Turkish society, and that with the changing society and understanding of art, some criticisms of classical Turkish literature have emerged, and that Dr. Mehmet Kahraman has researched this topic in detail. He then briefly mentioned Dr. Kahraman's biography and works  Dr. Mehmet Kahraman then took the stage and provided information on the history and development of discussions on divan literature.   He stated that since the Tanzimat period, different people in Turkish society have criticized divan literature, but that most of these same people later regretted their criticism, which was often made out of youthful sentiment or under the influence of their environment, and backtracked.

        Dr. Kahraman also said that it is necessary to look at the rhymed mesnevis of divan literature through the lens of today's stories and novels, and that he has written books on this subject. The program, which lasted about an hour,  our Department Chair, Prof. Dr. Mustafa Erdoğan, gave a short opening speech at the beginning of the program, which started at 2:00 PM. The event concluded with a group photo with Prof. Dr. Erdoğan.
