As part of the elective course ARCHE304 Islamic Architectural Ornaments, conducted by Dr. Cemile Feyzan Şimşek during the Spring Semester of the 2024–2025 academic year at AYBU Department of Architecture, a technical study and site trip to Bursa was held on April 18–19–20.

As part of the trip, firstly the historical and urban fabric of Cumalıkızık, along with traditional Turkish houses were examined. Afterwards, visits were made to the Grand Mosque of Bursa, the historical inns and covered bazaar surrounding it, Tophane, the tombs of Osman Gazi and Orhan Gazi, the Green Tomb and Mosque, as well as the Emir Sultan Tomb and Mosque, along with other structures located in the historical district. Within the scope of the course, students identified the architectural geometric patterns of 130 mosques and masjids dating back to the Early Ottoman period. The coastal district of Bursa, Mudanya, was visited. Additionally, the Tofaş Anatolian Cars Museum and art gallery, which was converted from a former silk factory and restored and re-functioned, located in the Umurbey neighborhood, was visited.

We were honored to be accompanied by our esteemed Dean, Prof. Dr. İhsan Toktaş, our Vice Dean, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ahmet Emre Dinçer, the course instructor Dr. Cemile Feyzan Şimşek, and our valuable students.

We extend our sincere thanks to all participants.
