245. Wednesday Seminar: A presentation titled “A New Type of Crime in Turkish Law: Persistent Pursuit Crime” was made.

Research Assistant Ahmet Kılıç talked about the term ‘persistent pursuit’ and its historical development. He underlined the increase in persistent pursuit cases with the increase in internet use. He explained what ‘persistent pursuit crime’ is, which was included in our legislation in May 2022, scrutinized the elements of crime in terms of the acts and result, and underlined the problems that might be encountered in practice. He explained that acts which do not have the content of injustice might not require punishment on their owns, however, when such acts become a whole, they might require punishment. In this context, persistent pursuit crime fills a gap in the legislation. In this type of crime, the temporal link should be narrowly interpreted and conditions such as social compliance should be taken into account.

The programme ended with the Q&A session. (17.05.2023)
