Abstract:
Integrated Sensing and Communications (ISAC) has emerged as a key enabling paradigm for future wireless systems, particularly within Non-Terrestrial Network (NTN) architectures. This work reviews ISAC system designs for Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellites, High-Altitude Platform Systems (HAPS), and Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV)-based platforms, with emphasis on joint waveform design, resource sharing, and interference management. Existing approaches are analyzed in terms of the fundamental trade-offs between sensing accuracy and communication performance. Moreover, NTN-specific challenges, including high mobility, Doppler effects, propagation delay, and channel uncertainty, are examined with respect to their impact on ISAC system design. The study aims to provide a structured overview of current ISAC over NTN solutions and to identify potential research directions relevant to future thesis work.
