PERSIAN LANGUAGE AND LITERATURE

A member of the Indo-European language family, Persian is a language with deep roots and a rich history dating back to the Persian Empire. During the Islamic period, the influence of Persian language persisted, with Islamic scholars and writers producing works in this language. Persian became a developed language of science and literature during this period. Due to the longstanding relationship between Persian and Turkish societies since ancient times, Persian is also necessary for understanding Turkish history and culture.

Today, the importance of the Persian language spoken in Iran, Afghanistan, and Tajikistan has increased due to Turkey's developing relations with the region's countries; the demand for individuals knowledgeable in Persian language, culture, and literature has multiplied.

About the Sub-Department

The Sub-Department of Persian Language and Literature at Ankara Yıldırım Beyazıt University is dedicated to playing a leading role in the research and teaching of the Persian language. The undergraduate and graduate programs of our department, in their establishment phase, are being prepared. In the undergraduate program, emphasis is placed on translation, grammar, and speaking training so that our graduates can use the Persian language proficiently; it is envisaged that they will be knowledgeable about Iranian culture and history as well as the history of Persian Literature. The aim of our graduate programs will be to train individuals well-versed in classical and modern Persian language and literature and to conduct scientific research in this field.

Career Opportunities for Graduates

Graduates of the Department of Persian Language and Literature are increasingly employed in both the private sector and universities and public institutions. Among the public institutions aimed at employing our graduates are the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, the Turkish Armed Forces, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the General Directorate of Security, the Directorate of Manuscripts, and the Atatürk Culture, Language, and History High Institution.
