1) Where is the Department located?

Our department is housed within the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences at the Esenboğa Main Campus of Ankara Yıldırım Beyazıt University.

2) Is the Preparatory Year compulsory?

Since the medium of instruction in the AYBÜ Department of Translation and Interpreting (Arabic) Undergraduate Program is 100% Arabic, the Arabic Preparatory Program is compulsory. Students are required to successfully complete the preparatory year before commencing their undergraduate studies. The preparatory education, as well as the assessment and evaluation processes, are conducted by the relevant units of the University.

In addition, students who successfully pass the Arabic Proficiency Examination administered by the Department at the beginning of the academic year are exempt from the preparatory year and may proceed directly to the first year of the undergraduate program.

3) Are second foreign language courses offered?

In addition to Arabic, our department offers instruction in English, Russian, Persian, and Hebrew. Beginning in the second year, students take courses in these languages as part of the curriculum.

4) What technological facilities does the Department offer?

Our classrooms are equipped with interactive teaching technologies that support an engaging learning environment. In addition, the Department has a state-of-the-art interpreting laboratory for simultaneous interpreting training. Memsource is also used as the Computer-Assisted Translation (CAT) tool throughout the program.

6) Does the Department offer double major or minor opportunities?

Our Department has double major agreements with the Department of English Translation and Interpreting and the Department of Theology (30% Arabic), as well as a minor program agreement with the Department of English Translation and Interpreting. Students who meet the required academic criteria may pursue a double major or a minor, enabling them to broaden their academic knowledge and professional qualifications.

7) Is there an internship program?

Yes. The Department includes a compulsory internship. Third-year students who rank within the top 20% of their class based on overall academic performance are eligible to complete their internship at institutions and organizations affiliated with the Department.

8) How can students reach the campus?

The campus is easily accessible by public transportation. Students can travel directly from Kızılay to the campus via EGO bus route 486. During the academic term, express bus route 474 also operates from Kızılay to the campus. In addition, Çubuk minibuses (dolmuş) stop inside the campus.

9) What accommodation options are available for students?

A KYK (Credit and Dormitories Institution) student dormitory is located near the campus. Students may contact KYK directly for detailed information regarding accommodation and application procedures.
