The “International Symposium on the Legal Regime of Ports,” organized in collaboration with Ankara University National Research Center for Maritime Law (DEHUKAM) and Mersin Chamber of Maritime Commerce, and supported by Mersin International Port (MIP), was held in Mersin on September 3-4, 2026.
The symposium addressed the status of ports under national and international law, as well as current legal issues and developments related to port law. Topics such as the authority and responsibilities of the port state, maritime safety and security, port management, smart and green ports, digitalization, sustainability, and the protection of the marine environment were evaluated from various perspectives.
Our Faculty Dean, Prof. Dr. Neslihan KARATAŞ DURMUŞ participated in the symposium, which brought together academics, public institution representatives, practitioners, and maritime sector representatives at national and international levels, and chaired the panel titled "Legal Implications of Smart Ports."
Our faculty member, Asst. Prof. Ceren CERİT DİNDAR, also presented her paper titled "Smart Ports and Contractual Innovation: Reducing Anchoring-Related Emissions Through the Blue Visby Solution" within the same panel.
The symposium, which was also attended by faculty members from our Faculty's Department of Maritime Law, addressed current issues in port law from national and international perspectives in sessions held over two days, and provided an important platform for the sharing of knowledge and experience among representatives from academia, the public sector, and the private sector.
