As one of the first students of this department, I didn’t fully know what kind of journey I was embarking on when I started. Looking back today, I understand much better how right this choice was for both my personal development and my professional vision. In our department, not only theoretical knowledge but also practical training and project-based learning are emphasized. Our instructors are extremely attentive and supportive; whenever you knock on their door, they listen to you, guide you, and help you in every way possible. It’s an environment where you won’t feel alone academically. Our university is young but dynamic. It offers many opportunities for development, from international programs to student clubs. For prospective students who want to study Software Engineering, this is a place where you can receive a high-quality education and also develop yourself in a well-rounded way.

The Software Engineering Department at Ankara Yıldırım Beyazıt University has a vision that teaches not only coding, but also thinking, designing, and creating. As the first students of the department, we had the opportunity to build a strong theoretical foundation under the guidance of our expert and dedicated academic staff, while continuously improving ourselves through practical projects. Through the Software Club we established, we organized many technical and social activities, laying the foundations of our department’s culture and building strong bonds among students. For us, AYBU Software Engineering has represented not just a department, but a valuable path that has helped us move step by step toward our dreams and aspirations.

The Software Engineering Department at Ankara Yıldırım Beyazıt University adopts an educational approach that does not focus solely on academic success, but also combines theoretical knowledge with social and professional development. Starting from the second year, we have the opportunity to apply our theoretical knowledge in practice through projects we take part in. Through these projects, we not only improve our software skills but also gain a better understanding of the importance of industry-relevant competencies such as teamwork, problem-solving, and time management, while further developing ourselves in these areas.

The close and sincere communication we establish with our experienced and highly qualified academic staff makes our learning process much more efficient. The knowledge, supportive approach, and accessibility of our instructors play a significant role in our academic and personal development. In addition, through events organized by the Software Engineering Club (ASEC), we both enjoy our time and gain insights into the industry, while also having the opportunity to shape our career goals.

In our department, great importance is placed on developing problem-solving and teamwork skills. Our instructors are highly motivated to help us improve and have a supportive approach. At the same time, opportunities such as ASEC, formed by students of our department, enable students to build strong networks and create spaces for self-development. I believe that being part of such a dynamic department—one that supports the growth of its students while continuously evolving itself—is a valuable opportunity.

Although we are a new department, everything we have achieved together has been very enjoyable. Especially thanks to the absence of limiting factors and the support of our academic staff in every area, we are able to move forward and work together without restricting our ideas.

In our department, not only theoretical knowledge but also practical education is emphasized. The culture of entrepreneurship and software project management processes are taught through hands-on practice from start to finish. Gaining experience through real-world projects helps us grow not only as engineers but also as project leaders.

Unlike other engineering fields, choosing software engineering offers a great advantage in allowing you to work on projects related to your hobbies. Whether it’s cinema, music, sports, or any other interest, it is possible to develop software or applications around what you enjoy. I think this is one of the most appealing aspects of the department.

I would like to point out that software engineering is not, as commonly thought, a field made up of antisocial individuals who never leave their computers. On the contrary, since we mostly work on projects in groups, it is a discipline that effectively teaches how to be a team member, task distribution, responsibilities, and time management. Since AYBU Software Engineering is a relatively new department, it brings to mind the saying “the caravan is arranged on the road.” I don’t mean this only in a negative sense; on the contrary, being part of building the culture of the “caravan” is equally enjoyable.

Life gains meaning through the connections we build with people; the stronger your connections are, the more comfortable you feel—just like an internet connection.
