A project involving Dr. Ömer MİNTEMUR, a faculty member of the Software Engineering Department at Ankara Yıldırım Beyazıt University (AYBÜ), as a researcher has been awarded funding under the TÜBİTAK 3501 Career Development Program.
In the project titled “Determination of Aggregate Gradation of Bituminous Hot Mixes Using Image Processing and Deep Learning Approaches” (Project No. 225M935), led by Dr. Duygu DEMİRTÜRK from the Department of Civil Engineering at AYBÜ, Dr. Ömer MİNTEMUR and Dr. Elif ŞANLIALP serve as researchers.
Bringing together the disciplines of Civil Engineering, Software Engineering, and Computer Engineering, the project aims to accurately estimate the 3D volumetric gradation distribution of aggregates from 2D asphalt cross-sectional images using computer vision and deep learning techniques.
The project team welcomes applications from graduate students interested in the research area.
Main responsibilities include implementing, training, and optimizing image processing and deep learning algorithms; conducting independent research to address project challenges; transforming developed models into user-friendly graphical interfaces; and contributing to reporting and academic publications.
Desired qualifications include a degree in Computer Engineering or Software Engineering (or being a senior-year student), an interest in computer vision and artificial intelligence, experience using large language models in software and research workflows, strong analytical and independent working skills, and proficiency in Python, PyTorch, and OpenCV.
