Department of International Relations offers Ph.D. program for a few numbers of students who are interested in specializing in the field of International Relations. The students are expected to improve their research and analytical thinking abilities and to do dense and detailed research. In addition to do the requirements of Ph.D. program, the students are expected to publish an academic paper in a refereed journal.Ph.D. program is mostly preffered by those who pursue an academic career.
Application Requirements:
Application requirements may be subjected to change in every application term. Therefore, the recent announcements from the Graduate School of Social Sciences should be followed. Application requirements according to the latest call:
For Turkish citizens:
The candidates must have a minimum score of 65 from ALES, a minimum score of 80from English proficiency exams such as KPDS, ÜDS, YDS, YÖKDİL andother exams who see quivalency recognized by YÖK and finally a minimum CGPA of 76.66 out of 100. ALES and language proficiency exams are valid for 5 years. The candidates are also required to submit two reference letters.
For international students:
ALES or an equivalent exam such as GRE (no minimum score is required)
English Proficiency is not required to be documented during the application, but the accepted candidates must take a proficiency exam who see quivalency is recognized by YÖK (TOEFL, YDS, etc). Incase the applicant is a gradute of an English-medium university, language proficiency score is not required.
A tuition fee of 6500 Turkish liras (may be subjected to changes)
Two recommendation letters
Program Requirements:
Ph.D.students are required to successfully complete;
- At least 7 courses from the program currriculum
- Scientific Research and Methodologycourse (in case this course is taken in an MA degree, it is not compulsory)
- Seminar course
- Ph.D. qualification exam, thesis proposal, three thesis monitoring committee and dissertation
- In addition, at least one of the following must be completed before doctoral dissertation defense:
- A poster or oral presentation related to the dissertation in a national or international conference, congressor symposium
- A published or pending work in a national or international peer-reviewed journal, or a similar work
