The 2nd session of the Ankara Yıldırım Beyazıt University (AYBU) Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences Colloquium, 2026–2027 Fall, was held on Wednesday, 14 October 2026, from 12:00 to 13:00 in Room A201. In the session, Assist. Prof. Dr. Burak Sunguralp Tekin from the AYBU Department of Translation and Interpreting delivered a talk titled “An Interaction-Oriented Approach to Human–Machine Relations.”

Tekin examined how people shape their actions according to a machine’s perceptual capacities and technical features in human–machine relations. Noting that the study draws on conversation analysis and approaches human–machine relations from a social and interactional perspective, Tekin said that an analysis based on video data from video game play shows players arranging their movements not only according to the requirements of the game but also according to how the machine will perceive those movements.

Tekin also explained that the views players express during the interaction about how the machine perceives their movements play an important role in shaping those movements. He argued that the machine is not merely a tool in human–machine interaction but emerges as an interactional element that guides, shapes and at times constrains people’s bodies and actions. The talk also offered a broader discussion of how people’s adaptation to technological systems affects bodily practices and the experience of being human.

The next session of the Faculty Colloquium will take place on Wednesday, 21 October 2026, from 12:00 to 13:00 in Room A201. In that session, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Şahin Yeşilyurt from the AYBU Department of Public Finance will present a talk titled “Attracting Starlings: Locust Invasions, Taxation, and the Role of the Starling Sheikhs in Ottoman Society.”
