Throughout history, translation and interpretation have played a key role in people's communication with each other and in accessing the knowledge of the past and current time. Social, cultural and economic developments in the world, especially in the recent period, have revealed the importance of translation activity once again, and the need for qualified translators is are increasing gradually in political, economic, etc. areas. As an academic discipline, translation studies have gained importance in our country in recent years as in many parts of the world, and university departments are established to provide education in this field. Besides following different curricula, these departments train translators and interpreters of the future, especially needed in the business world, in addition to official institutions and organizations, equip students with theoretical knowledge in various fields such as technical, literary, conference, media translation and offer them the opportunity to practice. Ankara Yıldırım Beyazıt University, English Translation and Interpretation Department was established in 2019 in accordance with this purpose. With a wide-perspective undergraduate program, a full-scale translation laboratory, and competent academic staff, our department aims to train translators who are competent in their field, devoted to scientific values, and well-equipped in political, social, cultural and historical issues.
