Curriculum Regulation In Our Department

The rapid changes in the field of translation were evaluated by our department committee and accordingly, the curriculum was updated in our department. In this process, besides our department academicians, the opinions of external stakeholders, both from the business sector and from other universities, were taken into consideration.

What we have done!

  • We have determined courses according to current sector conditions.
  • In accordance with the student-centered education approach, we reduced the number of compulsory courses and increased the number of elective courses. Thus, we enabled students to choose courses in line with their wishes and abilities.
  • We provided diversity in second foreign language courses. In this context, German, Arabic, Chinese, French and Russian courses are offered as a second foreign language in our department.
  • We aimed for systematic learning and absolute student success by placing prerequisites for some courses.
  • We have set prerequisites for Consecutive Interpreting, Simultaneous Interpreting and Conference Interpreting courses. Accordingly, the students are to pass each of the courses of Listening and Speaking I, Listening and Speaking II, Introduction to Interpreting with at least BB letter grade and above so that they can take the courses of Consecutive Interpreting I, Simultaneous Interpreting I and Conference Interpreting I. After taking these interpreting courses, it is enough to pass them with at least DD letter grade to take second versions of abovementioned interpreting courses. With this procedure, we have allowed students who meet these requirements to specialize in the relevant interpreting fields and make more practice.

This new curriculum will be applied to the students newly enrolled in our department as of the 2023-2024 Fall Semester.
