Topic: Radar Range Resolution Improvement Techniques and Their Implementation on the AWR2944EVM Platform
Link or Room: CB-208
Abstract:
Range resolution is the smallest distance at which a radar can detect two close targets as separate echoes. It is one of the most important parameters in many applications such as automotive radar systems (ADAS), synthetic aperture radar (SAR), through-wall imaging and biomedical sensing. In conventional FFT based processing the resolution is limited by ΔR = c/(2B). Improving this limit by increasing the bandwidth is usually expensive and also restricted by frequency regulations, so over the years several alternative techniques have been developed. This seminar gives an overview of the main ones, including pulse compression, FMCW processing, stepped frequency methods, and super-resolution algorithms like MUSIC, ESPRIT, Matrix Pencil, Compressed Sensing and deep learning based approaches. Their basic ideas, advantages and limitations are discussed together with the recent research directions in this field.
