ARCH315 Building Installations and Physics: Workshop Series with Professionals – Post-Event News Announcement

The Department of Architecture at Ankara Yıldırım Beyazıt University successfully completed a series of three expert workshops within the scope of the Fall 2025–2026 ARCH315 Building Installations and Physics course. The events brought together students, faculty, and industry professionals to deepen the understanding of mechanical and electrical building services in architectural design.

The program included:

Mechanical Building Services Workshop for Thermal Comfort, Water and Gas Systems
conducted by Melih Özöner and Yiğit Özöner (Mechanical Engineer & Founder, YMT Engineering) on 02.12.2025.

Mechanical Building Services Workshop for HVAC
conducted by Onur Tuğa (Mechanical Engineer & Founder, OTM Engineering) on 09.12.2025.

Electrical Building Services Workshop
conducted by Kemal Aykaç (Electrical and Electronics Engineer & Founder, Özay Engineering) on 16.12.2025.

Each workshop consisted of a lecture and a project-based feedback session, during which students presented their ongoing studio work and received expert critiques on system integration, performance considerations, and design decision-making. The sessions emphasized the importance of building services in architectural practice, highlighting topics such as thermal comfort, HVAC strategies, water and gas systems, electrical infrastructure, lighting, energy efficiency, and interdisciplinary coordination.

The events were organized by Assoc. Prof. Ekrem Bahadır Çalışkan, Aslı Zeynep Doğan, and Buse Akçay Pehlivanoğlu, with participation from undergraduate students enrolled in ARCH315. The workshops were also open to faculty members.

We extend our sincere thanks to our guest speakers Melih Özöner, Yiğit Özöner, Onur Tuğa, and Kemal Aykaç for their contributions, as well as to the students for their active participation and to the course coordinators for their support in planning and executing the program.

These workshops strengthened the connection between academic learning and professional practice, contributing to the development of technical awareness and design responsibility in architectural education at Ankara Yıldırım Beyazıt University.
