Hands-on Training on Academic Visibility Strategies Held at Our University
On March 28, 2024, "Hands-on Training on Academic Visibility Strategies" was conducted for the academic visibility coordinators of departments by Dr. Abdullah Demir, a member of the AYBÜ Quality Commission, at the Etlik Milli İrade Campus conference hall.
The opening speech was delivered by Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Mustafa Orçan. Prof. Orçan emphasized that the academic world is a highly competitive environment where it is more critical than ever for researchers' work to be noticed. He defined academic visibility as the degree to which a researcher's work is known and recognized by other scholars, noting it as a key factor directly influencing research impact and career development. He further highlighted that high academic visibility enhances research impact, supports career growth, facilitates new collaborations and funding opportunities, and contributes to the dissemination of scientific knowledge. He stated that this training focuses on the question, "How to increase academic visibility?" and noted that following the session, participants would serve as "Department Academic Visibility Coordinators," tasked with providing information and technical support to faculty members within their respective departments.
Dr. Abdullah Demir shared academic visibility strategies with the staff through hands-on applications. Dr. Demir expressed that academic visibility reflects how effectively a researcher can share and promote their work—a matter of both personal and institutional importance. He pointed out that various strategies exist to boost visibility and provided practical insights. Specifically, he demonstrated how researchers can add their profiles and publications to ORCID, Google Scholar, Web of Science, SCOPUS, and the AYBÜ Academic Data Management System, as well as how to link these databases for automated data transfer.
Through this training, the goal is for Department Academic Visibility Coordinators to provide technical support to faculty members, ensuring that all publications become visible on the academic profiles of all faculty members as soon as possible. The event concluded with a Q&A session.
The video recording of the training has been published on our University's YouTube page.
