Our department members work in multi-disciplinary fields with a scientific perspective. They can produce solutions to problems in different subjects with their critical and analytical thinking structure and have the necessary expert knowledge and experience. Our department has a dynamic structure that constantly renews itself to meet the information, education and learning needs of the students.

Mission

As Ankara Yıldırım Beyazıt University Information and Records Management, our mission is to train information professionals who catch up with the era and speak the mother tongue of the digital age, in accordance with the changing and diversifying needs of the information society, and to prepare them for the future with a scientific and ethical education approach. We aim to train information specialists with professional competence and knowledge in the field of information science with our scientific quality understanding and critical perspective. 

 

Vision

As Ankara Yıldırım Beyazıt University Information and Records Management, our main goal is to prepare future information specialists for their professional life, to shed light on their lives, to support them throughout their professional lives, with educational environments designed in accordance with the needs of the age and academic knowledge, to witness their success and continuing to support them.

Learning Outcomes

The curriculum of the Department of Information and Records Management covers the fields of information science, librarianship, and information management. The curriculum provides students with knowledge on archiving, accessing, organizing, sharing information, digital libraries, access to information, information systems and services, archive, and document management, bibliometrics, scientific research methods. Our department students will have the competence to critically evaluate, synthesize and use information with the curriculum applied in the department. Students will learn how to access information resources and how to use the accessed information and resources. Students will gain knowledge and skills in designing future information services by examining and evaluating good practice examples in the fields of librarianship, archiving, information science and information management. The students of our department will also learn to conduct scientific research within the framework of ethical rules and will have theoretical and practical knowledge and competence on science ethics and morals. They learn to collect, evaluate, analyze, and use data in scientific research articles and reports for effective qualitative and quantitative research with the theoretical and applied knowledge learned in the research methods course. Our students, who have started to gain analytical and critical thinking with the courses they take in our department, will begin to evaluate the phenomena in the world from a different perspective. They will gain skills in evaluating and discussing the accuracy of the information and data obtained by not relying on a single source of information. Students who learn knowledge with a critical approach will have the opportunity to improve themselves in terms of meta-literacy skills and meta-cognitive competencies. Our students will do internship in different institution types twice during their education life in the department. The internship activity enables our students to get to know the sector better, to examine and evaluate the cases in the sector, to recognize professional practices, to observe how the problems encountered in practice are handled, and to think about what needs to be done to solve the problems encountered during sectoral applications. Our department trains our students as information professionals and information specialists of the future, both in terms of theory and practice. In accordance with the principles of lifelong learning, they will be able to use the knowledge they have learned and the skills they have gained with our department curriculum both in their professional life and in other areas of life.
