Application Dates: 29 August 2021 - 12 September 2021
YDDS (Placement Exam): 16 September 2021
YDMS-AGE (Proficiency Exam): 20-21-22-23 September 2021
Important Announcements
* The exam will be online. The students who do not wish to take the exam online can take it face-to-face at our school.
* All the students wanting to take the exam must apply. The applications will open on the designated date on our website: aybu.edu.tr/yabancidiller/en
* The students who do not take the exam will be placed in Preparatory school, A (Basic) level.
* The students who enrolled in our university this year will first take the YDDS (Placement), and then if they get enough points, they will take the YDMS-AGE (Proficiency).
* To take the exam online, a computer with Windows 7, 8 or 10 installed, and a secondary device (phone, tablet, or a second computer) for invigilation are required.

Exam Information
Placement Exam (YDDS) (100 points)
Placement exam is for students from ALL departments.
*** Students from 100% or 30% English medium departments will take this exam to be able to take the YDMS-AGE Exam to start their departments. These students who get 59.5 from the Placement Exam are allowed to take the YDMS-AGE Exam.
*** Students from Turkish medium departments will take this exam to be exempt from compulsory ING 101-102 / ING 103-104 Courses. These students who get 59.5 and higher from the Placement Exam are exempt from ING 101-102 / ING 103-104.
Content: 100 questions (grammar, vocabulary, reading); mistakes do not reduce the points for the correct answers
Duration: 100 minutes
Aim: This exam helps the students see their level of English. Therefore, it is important to answer the questions accordingly. Students will be accommodated into levels and classes according to the results of the Placement Exam.
Level accommodation:
0-39 - A level (beginners)
39.5-79 - A+ level (elementary
79.5-100 - B level (pre-intermediate)
Students who get 59.5 from the Placement Exam are allowed to take the YDMS-AGE Exam.
Proficiency Exam (YDMS-AGE) - 100 points
Content: WRITTEN PART
2 listening sections (5 questions each; in total 10 questions) - 25 points
2 reading texts (5 questions each; in total 10 questions) - 25 points
One writing task - opinion essay - 25 points
Content: SPEAKING PART
Speaking part - two tasks - 25 points
First task - 3 short questions - immediate response - 10 points
Second task - 1 statement - 1 minute thinking time and 2 minutes talking about the statement - 15 points
Duration:
Written part - 110 minutes
Speaking part - 6 to 8 minutes (each student)
Passing grade: 69.5, mistakes do not reduce the points for the correct answers
Level accommodation:
49.5-69 - B+ level (intermediate)
34.5-49 - B level (pre-intermediate)
…-34 - A+ level (elementary)
Aim: The aim of the YDMS-AGE Exam is to determine whether the students are ready to take courses in English in their departments. If they pass the YDMS-AGE Exam, they will continue their study in their departments. If they cannot pass the YDMS-AGE Exam, they will continue their study in the School of Foreign Languages to learn English.
