Seminar on 'Engineering Education in the 100th Year of the Republic of Türkiye' Successfully Concluded

We are delighted to share that the first part of the seminar, titled 'Engineering Education in the 100th Year of the Republic of Türkiye,' was held on Wednesday, October 25, 2023, at 10:00. The seminar, spanning 100 minutes, featured esteemed speakers who addressed important aspects of engineering education.

The first speaker, Prof. Dr. Selahattin Çelik, academician from the Department of Mechanical Engineering, explored the historical impact of engineering and the current state of engineering quality in Turkey. His presentation, 'The Engineer Trained at the University and the Transfer of University-Produced R&D to Industry' not only examined the significance of engineering in our history but also shed light on the role of universities in producing R&D for the sector. Drawing from his extensive experience, he discussed successful and unsuccessful aspects of our education system and shared valuable insights about industry expectations from universities and future engineers. Prof. Dr. Çelik concluded his talk with practical recommendations for aspiring engineers.

The second speaker, Dr. Begüm Ünveroğlu Abdioğlu, a respected academician from the Department of Metallurgical and Materials Engineering, presented 'Engineering Education from an International Perspective'. Her insightful analysis delved into the strengths and weaknesses of engineering education in our country by drawing comparisons with international practices. Dr. Abdioğlu's presentation also encompassed topics such as the participation of female and international students in engineering programs. She elaborated on current global challenges and offered solutions in the field of engineering.

Both presentations sparked meaningful discussions and provided a platform for raising awareness about contemporary issues in engineering education. The active participation of our faculty members and students contributed to the success of the seminar, where innovative solutions were proposed to address current challenges.
