DEPARTMENT OF CIVIL ENGINEERING
The Department of Civil Engineering at the Faculty of Engineering and Natural Sciences, Ankara Yıldırım Beyazıt University, commenced education by accepting its first students in the 2016–2017 academic year.
Our department provides 100% English-language education, and the undergraduate programme lasts four years. There is a one-year preparatory class for students who do not meet the English language proficiency requirements. According to the latest ÖSYM data, our department has a total capacity of 50 students, and students are admitted to the programme based on competitive rankings in numerical scoring.
Our undergraduate programme begins with fundamental engineering science courses such as mathematics, physics, and chemistry; it then deepens with professional courses such as statics, strength of materials, structural statics, reinforced concrete, steel structures, soil mechanics, foundation engineering, hydrology, hydraulics, transportation, construction management, and earthquake engineering. The programme aims to train engineers with a strong theoretical foundation, analytical thinking skills, proficiency in using current engineering software, and a sense of professional responsibility and ethics.
In addition to undergraduate education, our department also conducts education and research activities at the master's (MSc) and doctoral (PhD) levels within postgraduate programmes where the language of instruction is 100% English. Our postgraduate programmes involve theoretical and applied studies in fundamental areas such as structural engineering, geotechnics, hydraulics, transportation, construction management, and building materials.
The Department of Civil Engineering at Ankara Yıldırım Beyazıt University aims to train its students to become engineers who can compete both nationally and internationally through its creative, flexible and up-to-date curriculum; high-quality classroom education; academic advisory system; technical trips, seminars and sectoral collaborations. Our graduates taking on active roles in public institutions, private sector companies, research centres, and academia is an important part of our department's fundamental vision.
