AYBU 3rd Accessible Futures Student Panel Hosted National Athlete Nesim Turan
Within the scope of the December 3rd International Day of Persons with Disabilities, Ankara Yıldırım Beyazıt University hosted esteemed national athlete Nesim Turan at the "AYBU 3rd Accessible Futures Student Panel," organized to raise awareness and support the participation of individuals with disabilities in social life. The program, held with the participation of our Rector Prof. Dr. Ali Cengiz Köseoğlu, university administration, and numerous students, received great interest.
Before the panel, Turan played an exhibition match with Merve Sefa Özsu, who won a silver medal in doubles at the recent European Championships, and inspired participants by sharing the impact of sports on his life.
The national athlete, who also serves on the executive board of the Turkish National Paralympic Committee, emphasized that he has won 90 medals in the international arena throughout his career and expressed the following:
“Representing the Turkish flag and hearing the National Anthem played is a priceless feeling for me. Throughout my career, I have always strived to be the best, and I have been blessed to achieve it. I never see myself as disabled; on the contrary, I feel lucky. Individuals with disabilities should not be remembered only on December 3rd. There is no point to this day if they are forgotten on December 4th.”
At the conclusion of the panel, our Rector Prof. Dr. Ali Cengiz Köseoğlu presented plaques to Nesim Turan and Merve Sefa Özsu, thanking them for their contributions. The program ended with a commemorative photo session.
