The study examines the concept of phonological control, which was included in the 2020 updated version of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR), published as the Companion Volume, with reference to discussions of intelligibility and accent in the second language pronunciation literature. The chapter also explores the implications of the concept of phonological control for teaching processes and its place within the CEFR.
